Herl the Pearl

Profile Information

About me
I play drums in the Deiggj band and love rock music. I was born in the Faroe Islands but grew up in Denmark. I moved to the Faroes in 1978. I am currently in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Aged 7, I discovered ABBA (gotta start somewhere) ... I soon moved on to rock music and knew right away that I wanted to play the drums. I only had pillows to play on and made my own drum sticks. Later on, I expanded my three-pillow kit to include buckets and things.

When I was around 12, I finally got my first drum kit. It was a Maxwin by Pearl set and I played on it all day long. I had a few more Pearl kits but eventually bought a Yamaha Power V, Birch Custom kit with 4 toms, which is still what I use in Deiggj. I added a lot of Paiste Alpha series cymbals to it -- never enough metal, you know.

I recently purchased a Roland TD-12 digital drumkit. Being a conservative guy, I was not completely into all that "artifical stuff". I wanted acoustic drums but I have to admit, those V-drums are pretty amazing and I love my TD-12. I still like the feel of real metal cymbals, but there are many advantages to digital drums.

I have been playing all sorts of musical styles, experimental jazz, funk/rock, fusion, blues, etc., but rock'n'roll always was the thing that gets me going. For a while, I played a lot of Metallica and similar metal-stuff, but I always come back to the good old rock from the 70'ies.

In terms of professions, I've worked with dynamite, fish, asphalt, construction, sales, databases, programming, graphics, and so on. I currently work as a web-designer and programmer.

Uriah Heep has always been one of those bands that I simply never grow tired of. Sometimes, people ask me who my favorite drummer is, and I must say "I have so many favorite drummers". Lee Kerslake is one of the gurus to me. Not only is he a great drummer, he's a very nice person.

My motto is "Ask not whether it's useful -- Ask what is it useful for".

Keep Rocking
Herl

Hi Herluf,
It was pleasure!!! I'm sure we'll meet again.
Apologies for the late reply. Somehow, after the return from Spain, I can't find time for anything.
Take care.
Boris.
